The Junior League of Baltimore, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving our community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

Joining the Junior League of Baltimore

The Junior League of Baltimore, Inc. offers the New Member experience in both the fall and spring. Applications are now being accepted for the Fall 2020 New Member Class until Saturday, August 8, 2020. Upon successful completion of the New Member requirements, women in the Fall 2020 class will be conferred Active Member status in January 2021. 

The New Member experience includes trainings, social gatherings, participation in JLB programs and projects, and collaboration with our community partners.  The experience is designed to integrate new members into the organization and build a strong foundation for participation as active members.


Membership Prerequisites

A woman desiring to join the Junior League of Baltimore (JLB) should:

  • Be at least 21 years of age prior to the beginning of the New Member Course
  • Live in the greater Baltimore metropolitan area
  • Have a strong interest in voluntarism
  • Demonstrate her ability to meet the New Member requirements


New Member Requirements

New Members must complete their New Member Menu prior to November 30, 2020 in order to be eligible for Active 1 Status. 



  • Pay Dues
  • Pay New Member Course Fee
  • Attend 3 New Member Orientation/Training Events
  • Attend 2 General Membership Meetings
  • Complete 2 Hours of Service in The Wise Penny*
  • Complete 1 New Member Group Activity
  • Complete 1 Community Impact Credit
  • Provide a picture for use in the League Directory


*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the requirements for the Wise Penny are currently in flux. The JLB is monitoring the CDC guidelines and the needs of the Wise Penny during this time and New Members will receive additional information regarding this requirement as it becomes available.


**Additionally some meetings may be held virtually depending on the CDC guidelines at the time of the meeting. New Members will receive specific information regarding meeting locations/formats/times in advance of the scheduled date.

  • August 8, 2020: Application Deadline for Fall 2020 New Member Class; New Member Dues and Course Fee Due

  • August 15, 2020: Acceptance Emails Sent

  • August 22, 2020: New Member Orientation & Training Event 10:00am-4:00pm at JLB Headquarters (this event may be virtual depending on current CDC guidelines)

  • August 25, 2020: General Membership Meeting

  • September 15, 2020: First New Member Training

  • September 22, 2020: General Membership Meeting

  • October 20, 2020: Second New Member Training

  • October 27, 2020: General Membership Meeting

  • November 17, 2020: General Membership Meeting

  • November 19, 2020: Third New Member Training

  • November 30, 2020: New Member Menu of Obligations to be Completed


Prerequisite Checklist:

  • I have a strong interest in voluntarism
  • I will be over the age of 21 by November 30, 2020
  • I live in the Greater Baltimore area
  • I understand the requirements and will demonstrate my ability to fully complete the obligations of membership in the Junior League of Baltimore
  • I have completed all steps in the membership application process listed below


Step 1: Attend a Virtual Informational Session and/or a Social Event 

Prospective New Members are encouraged to attend at least one social event and/or virtual informational session to learn about what the Junior League does and what the membership requirements are.

Virtual Information Sessions are scheduled for:

  • Thursday, June 25, 2020 at 7:00-9:00pm
  • Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 7:30-9:30pm

Social events are scheduled for the following dates, times, and places:*

  • Saturday, July 11, 2020 from 8:30-10:30am: Hike at Patapsco Valley State Park.
  • Sunday, July 19, 2020 from 9:00-11:00am: Yoga at Patterson Park.
  • Saturday July 25, 2020 from 11:30-1:30pm: Beach Happy Hour at Sandlot.

*Due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are trying to do outdoor social events and are limiting the number of participants that can attend in order to comply with CDC guidelines and keep the events safe and social distancing friendly. Please check our website for additional social events which will be posted in the coming weeks!

Step 2: Complete the Membership Application

Complete the online Membership Application and New Member Commitment agreement, and remit the required dues. Classes are limited in size.  Confidential financial assistance and payment plan information are available upon request.


Step 3: Attach Resume and one (1) Letter of Recommendation

Applications will NOT be considered without an accompanying resume and letter of recommendation.  One letter of recommendation is required. Letters of recommendation may be from anyone who can speak to the prospective member's character, volunteerism, and dedication, and may come from anyone - a family member, friend, co-worker, or current or former Junior League (any chapter) member.


Step 4: Complete Payment of Dues and New Member Fee.

Annual dues are $214 and the New Member Course Fee is $82.00. The JLB offers an installment plan of three payments. The deadline to return the payment plan enrollment form is August 8, 2020. If paying by credit card, the first installment of the payment plan or your full dues payment will occur between August 16-21, 2020.

If you prefer to pay by check, please mail a check for the full amount ($296.00) to Junior League of Baltimore headquarters (Attn: Jessica Donohue, 5902 York Rd. Baltimore, MD 21212). Payment will be deposited upon receipt. Payment installment plan option(s) are available. If not accepted, we will refund the dues amount paid. As a member, you will be asked to attend at least two meetings a month in person, including a general membership meeting and a committee meeting (usually scheduled on Tuesday nights). In addition, as a member, you will be expected to commit time to the League’s fundraising and community events. The League, however, offers flexibility in the scheduling of these service requirements. 


As a New Member, your New Member Class will be subdivided into smaller groups and each small group will have 1-2 Junior League Membership Outreach Committee Members as your mentor(s).  This will be your primary socialization group.  


By checking the box below, I acknowledge that I have reviewed the New Member Menu of Obligations included in this Admissions Guide for Prospective New Members. I have fully considered my level of interest and commitment to the Junior League of Baltimore, Inc. I agree to fulfill the New Member Menu of Obligations, including financial obligations, as outlined in this guide. I understand that if I do not fulfill my menu of obligations, including my financial obligations, and do not explicitly inform the Junior League of Baltimore that I want to discontinue membership, I will be dropped from the Junior League of Baltimore’s membership with the status of Resigned Not in Good Standing.


I understand by submitting my completed membership application and applicable dues, I agree to the outlined obligations of membership. I understand that I must fulfill these requirements within the stated deadlines in order to be eligible for Active 1 membership, unless an extension is approved by the Membership Outreach Committee. I understand that I shall abide and follow all pertinent bylaws and operational policies of the Junior League of Baltimore, Inc., during this period of time. I also understand that the New Member classes are limited in size, and only completed applications received by the deadline will be considered.


Fall 2020 New Member: Dues Payment 20-21

You may pay in full or opt for an installment plan (3 payments). The three payment plan is only available if paying by credit card. We accept all major credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.

If you choose to pay in full or opt for the installment plan please use the credit card authorization form link found on the Membership Application page of the jlbalt.org website. Completion of the credit card authorization form is due by August 8, 2020.

Terms and Conditions

  • Upon written request, members may choose to pay eligible financial obligations in three installment payments. The deadline to submit credit card information to the Office Manager is August 8, 2020.

  • The first payment plan installment shall occur between August 16-21, 2020. The second payment plan installment shall occur on September 15, 2020. The third payment plan installment shall occur on October 15, 20209.  Payments shall be made by debit/credit card only. The Junior League of Baltimore, Inc. will generally charge the above-listed card within 10 days of the payment due date.

  • If paying the full dues amount by credit card the payment shall occur between August 16-21, 2020.

  • If paying by check it will be deposited upon receipt. If not accepted, we will refund the dues amount paid.

  • Members are responsible for informing the administrative staff of the Junior League of Baltimore in writing of any changes to their debit/credit card information.  Members who fail to ensure timely remittance of the required installment payment will be liable for a $15.00 fine per late installment payment in addition to the required installment payment.

  • The League understands that membership dues and fees may present a financial hardship for an individual member.  Please contact Jess Donohue, JLB Office Manager (jessica@jlbalt.org), if you are faced with financial hardship and we will make alternative dues payment options available to you. All communications will be kept confidential.
