Young Woman Leadership Scholarship Application (2023)

It is with great pleasure that the Junior League of Baltimore ("JLB") announces the 2023 Young Woman Leadership Scholarship. This annual scholarship program awards $2,000 to a Maryland female graduating senior who has performed outstanding leadership during her high school years. Additional scholarships may be awarded as funds allow. 

The JLB is an organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training. By publicly recognizing and rewarding the efforts of young women leaders, we hope to encourage others to become committed to exceptional civic leadership.

To be considered for this scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Has an outstanding leadership and volunteer service record and shows the promise of continued success

  • Resides in Maryland and attends a Maryland public, charter, private, parochial high school or home schooled in one of the following counties: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Howard County, Anne Arundel County, Carroll County, or Harford County

  • Is a female graduating senior with plans to matriculate to an accredited two- or four-year, post-secondary institution, such as a trade school or university, in Fall 2023. Applicants must provide verification of enrollment. Funds will be paid directly to the institution where the student enrolls, in the student’s name

  • Is not a current member or immediate relative of a current member of the Junior League of Baltimore.

Priority consideration will be given to first-generation college students, meaning a student whose parents/guardians did not complete a four-year college degree.

*PLEASE NOTE: If you are mailing your application, it must be postmarked by April 1, 2023. All late or incomplete applications will not be considered. The JLB is not responsible for lost, late, damaged, illegible, misdirected, or postage-due applications. The JLB will not acknowledge receipt of applications. If you wish to confirm delivery, please mail your application using a suitable tracking method.

The scholarship recipient will be notified by May 1 and will be honored at the Junior League of Baltimore’s Annual Dinner in May 2023. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the post-secondary institution to be attended by the recipient.

 

 

You must upload the following documents for this application (details about each item listed below):

1. Acceptance letter(s) from an accredited, two- or four-year, post-secondary institution. The acceptance letter does not necessarily need to come from the institution to which you are matriculating.

2. One letter of recommendation from a supervisor of your community activities, preferably the project discussed in your essay (see #5 below).
 
3. A copy of your official high school transcript.
 
4. List of all leadership and community activities (grades 9-12).
 
5. A 300-600 word (1-2 full page) essay on the following topic “My Most Meaningful Community Impact Experience.”
 
     a. Please make clear the organization or leadership project to which you are referring and state the approximate date of the community experience.
 
     b. The connection between your community experience and the impact it had on you should be clear and convincing. Please be specific about how it differed from your other experiences.
